How to root Essential Phone PH-1 using Magisk
Finally after a long wait, an XDA member bmg1001 has come up with a an easy and common root process for Essential Phone. All the necessary files are provided below, first you need to flash TWRP recovery on the device then flash the Magisk zip file using recovery to gain root access on Essential Phone Ph-1. As the company implemented A/B partition scheme so the recovery itself is packed inside the boot.img (kernel). just follow the instructions below to root Essential Phone PH-1.

Process to root Essential Phone PH-1
Let us tell you that each new device comes with a locked bootloader, so first you need to unlock bootloader on your device and then you can flash TWRP recovery to perform root works.
Pre-requisites:
Download and install latest Essential USB drivers on PC, here is the guide for that.
Set up adb and fastboot drivers on PC, follow our guide to install them within 1 minute.
Necessary downloads:
Download Magisk 16.7.zip
Process to flash TWRP recovery on Essential Phone PH-1
Step 1: Connect your phone to PC and move the downloaded Magisk 16.7.zip file to the device storage.
Step 2: After that move the downloaded TWRP recovery image file to any folder at convenient location on your PC.
Step 3: Now open that folder where you have moved the TWRP zip file, and click on the the address bar then type CMD in there and press enter. Doing this will open the command window for the same folder.
Step 4: Connect your device to PC using a data cable, but remember to enable USB debugging from Developer options.
Step 5: Type the following command to boot your device into bootloader/fastboot mode.
adb reboot bootloader
Step 6: Once your device restarts in bootloader mode, issue the following command to flash TWRP recovery on your device
fastboot flash boot twrp-mata_11.img
Step 7: Reboot your device once the process is completed.
Finally you have successfully installed TWRP recovery on your Essential Phone. If you don’t want to root your device don’t process ahead. But if you have already made your mind for that just follow the instruction below.
Swipe the magisk zip to gain root access on Essential Phone PH-1
You can now easily root your device within a minute.
Step 1: Reboot your device into TWRP recovery mode. (In the bootloader screen press the volume up button several time)
Step 2: Tap on Install now choose the Magisk zip file you copied earlier and confirm on the next screen.
Step 3: Wait for the process to complete and reboot your device when the process is completed.
